Shade Tree Ordinance

Tree-lined streets and shade trees fronting properties add beauty to our surroundings and stability to our ecosystem. Chapter 74 of the Code of the City of Greensburg governs the City’s Shade Tree Policy prohibiting the removal of healthy, vibrant shade trees without first obtaining an approved permit issued by the City Administrator.

As defined in Section 74-2 of the City’s Code, a shade tree is defined as:

  • "Any shade tree, shrub, or other woody plant within the lines of any public highway or street, including the sidewalk area, in the City of Greensburg or that part of any shade tree shrub or other woody plant which extends over, upon, or within the line of any public highway or street, including the sidewalk area, in the City of Greensburg".

There is no fee for filing a shade tree permit application, however, in extreme cases, failure to do so could result in a fine up to $600/offense. Please help us to keep Greensburg Growing Greener by following the shade tree permit process and informing us at (724) 838-4324 of any needless tree removal you may observe in your neighborhood.
